about

The story of the album begins back in 2012. Sky Picnic had just finished the Paint Me A Dream LP and I had a few leftover ideas I wanted to get out of my head to wipe the slate clean so-to-speak before we eventually got ready to make the next album. The results of that were captured on the Sandalwood Haze EP I put out in 2013. I guess it was good enough (and got enough buzz) that I was asked by a label if I’d be into putting out a full-length. I never had designs of going that route, but if someone was going to put it out for me…
This coincided with a writing burst in the summer of 2013 and, not wanting to use all my “A” material for a solo album, I combed my archives for anything that was decent enough to develop into something to supplement these with. I spent July through September 2013 recording these in my bedroom with an acoustic guitar, a sitar, tabla, a Klemt Echolette that I ran the vocals through, and a Mellotron simulator.
I handed it over to the label, who was to put it out by early 2014. I did a cover shoot in November to get the artwork ready. Awesome. I was actually stoked at this point after having pulled this together from scraps. Shortly thereafter, I learned the label had financial issues and my still-untitled album was not going to be released as planned. I was temporarily bummed, but things were picking up with Sky Picnic, so this was mostly moot in my mind. And there I let the songs sit…
Cut to the summer of 2018, when I was reminded it was five years since my EP came out. I decided maybe it was time to revisit these songs and see if anything was salvageable. There I was, nearly five years later, different bedroom, working on the same songs. I recorded new vocals to everything, added some simple percussion, some sparse electric guitar and the Juno synth.
And there you have it. It only took six years, but I hope for anyone who was actually waiting for this, it meets some sort of expectations. Dig in and enjoy.
