Wake up with our dreams and clutch Them before they fade away The morning sun is shining down We approach another day And though it fades, we’ll know in time Might not see it now, on the edge of time And though it fades, dreams never die, like you and I, we’ll always shine Hold onto our dreams and hope It will all make sense one day Sitting on the edge of the world Legs dangling away

Everyone Let me off What happened to us all? What happened to our soul? Here again Triple guessed Feel that smile A faded smile What happened to this all? What happened to our soul? Here again Triple guessed Caught my breath, oh Now catch me We had to let it go We have to our soul? In no place, I want to keep reaching out to those arms All those days are just a photograph that’s left behind Standing alone Outside the world

about

As the pandemic hit the world in March of 2020, I decided to keep myself busy by writing one song a week (there was some overlap, and some writer's-blocked-induced skipped weeks, but the math mostly works itself out) for as long as I could to document what was unfolding. The only rule was to go with exactly how I was feeling that particular week and commit that to "tape" without any overthinking or second guessing. There are certainly a few flubs here and there, but the lack of perfection is so fitting that I want to leave all of the flaws as is.

This is an honest picture of me, my head space, and the bits of creativity I was able to produce along the way, serving as a musical journal of four bizarre months. Think of this as the soundtrack to the pandemic as I saw it, the musical accompaniment to the weirdest time of my life, where I literally felt like I was standing alone, outside the world.

The cover is fittingly one of the only moments of semi-normalcy during this stretch, a quick excursion upstate for a hike, standing atop a mountain where I was again, outside the world.

This theme kept coming up, and the album closes with a "trilogy" of sorts, taking us through a troubling June (politically, racially, and with the advent of summer, realizing we aren't getting to "normal" any time soon) which felt like the proper place to end this, with us outside the world we all knew.

(Some the songs made their way to social media upon initial completion, so thanks to everyone who offered their advice, encouragement and support as I worked on these; it seriously helped keep me going).
